The Thompson NRS Straight (3/4in) is a negative rake scraper designed to produce a flat, clean surface on the bottom of bowls, the face of platters, and any other flat or nearly flat area that a gouge struggles to finish cleanly.

The straight profile means you can present the full width of the edge to a flat surface in one controlled pass. Because it's a negative rake tool, the cutting edge is on the underside — so it shears rather than drags, taking a fine, controlled cut that leaves very little for the sandpaper to do.

At 19mm wide and 7.9mm thick, it's a substantial tool. The mass keeps it steady under the tool rest, and the thickness means it won't flex or chatter even on harder timbers. It arrives ready ground and sharp, ready to use from the moment it's in your handle.

Made from CPM-10V powder metal steel — hardened to 62–64 Rockwell, triple tempered, and cryogenically treated. The tang is 7.9mm thick by 11mm wide.
